No More Tears

No More TearsKaren has had it with tears from chopping onions. You are looking at her solution.

You may think why not glasses, but they don’t stop the problem. As you cut an onion, the amino acid sulfoxides are released into the air and form syn-propanethial-S-oxide. This chemical triggers the lachrymal gland to stimulate tear production to flush away the chemical. You have to block the syn-propanethial-S-oxide from reaching your eyes.

Gumbo

GumboMy Uncle Alfred made gumbo today for tonight’s dinner. Everyone is coming over again tonight.

(It was been wonderful spending time with everyone and having them take time to visit with us.)

My Aunt Ann and Uncle Alfred have been wonderful host having us stay in their home.

Ribs & Reds Restaurant for Quick Lunch

Ribs & Reds Restaurant for Quick LunchKatie Beth slept on the drive to Gulf Shores, Alabama. We are getting lunch. Karen is changing Katie Beth into beachwear while we wait on our food order.

Karen ordered Grouper and I order Royal Reds. Katie Beth will be sharing.

Oh, Katie Beth has started to say “cheese” when we want her to smile for a picture.

La’au’s Taco Shop

La'au's Taco ShopWe had a great meal from La’au’s Taco Shop.  You can see in the picture our eight tacos being boxed up.  We ordered the combo, which gets you a fish, a beef, and chicken, and a pork taco.  We let our server pick our toppings and he had fun doing it.

Kenny Mango's Coffee Shop

If you are looking for a new coffee shop, I would like to suggest Kenny Mango’s Coffee Shop on Hughes Road in Madison, Alabama.

You can find them here

Kenny Mango’s Coffee
97 Hughes Rd # A
Madison, AL 35758
(256) 461-6388‎

I stop by in the morning on the way into work and I have always enjoyed the coffee. I typically get a Monkey size café latte with an extra shot and sometimes a flavor like chocolate added. There is nothing like 4 shots to get you going in the morning.

Some weekend events, you will find musical entertainment at Kenny, which can be nice.

Great Food Tonight @ Blue Star in Colorado Springs

I stopped by the Blue Star in Colorado Springs for dinner tonight.

Wow!

The food was super. I had the almond rosemary crusted salmon with honey worchestershire sauce, which had a crisp top from the time under the broiler. The only problem with the dish was that the vegetables went under the broiler, too. Think blacken vegetables, but I didn’t want vegetables. I was looking for fish and it was great!

I had a Belgian Wit Beer, which went well with the fish. A Wit beer is a Belgian style wheat beer. Where “Wit” means white from the light color of the wheat beer has. If you are having fish, you should think of wheat beers when you are looking for a beer to go with your meal.

Mission Bell Inn

Tonight, I dined at the Mission Bell Inn in Manitou Springs, Colorado. The weather did not permit us to dine outside, but the restaurant has a nice patio. The same family has been been operating the restaurant since 1962.

I decided to try the Cimarron, which consisted of three cheese enchiladas covered in green chile and sides of rice and refries beans. The meal was lead by a tostada as a salad. The green chile was great over the enchiladas. Our server was lost at performing her job. She was only handling three tables, but she didn't refill drinks even with empty glasses all over the table.

Overall, I enjoyed the food except for a hair issue. The other servers seem very good when compared to ours. The decoration throughout the restaurant were very nice. I would good back again for the patio, which looked so nice and inviting.

The Blue Star

The Blue StarSaturday night, I ate at The Blue Star in Colorado Springs.

I had the “Whole Trout with blue corn crust, chipotle cheddar grits, grilled chayote fan and red eye sauce”.

Wow!

It was great. And, I had it with Bristol Brewing Company's Beehive which complemented the fish well.

I had thought about dessert, but the service was so slow with the crowd. I gave up. The hostess was servicing my table more the waitress. The waitress was mainly working the larger groups and I was by myself.
